Coroner records Edmonton father-of-seven Abdifatah Gutale's death in Montagu Road as 'accidental'

A coroner has recorded a verdict of accidental death at the inquest of a father-of-seven who was struck by a van in Edmonton last year.

Abdifatah Gutale, from Leopold Road, was a passenger in his friend’s Renault Megane when they had a near-miss with a bus in Montagu Road on July 3 at around 6.30pm.

The 30-year-old had just exchanged insurance details with the bus driver when he was hit by a passing van.

The accident took place less than a mile from his home.

Coroner Andrew Walker recorded a verdict of accidental death at Mr Gutale’s inquest at North London Coroner’s Court in Barnet on Tuesday.

More than 300 people paid their respects to Mr Gutale at his funeral in the days after death.

Mr Gutale, who died in the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel two days after the accident, left behind a wife as well as children aged one, two, three, five, ten, 12 and 14.

His sister, Ruun Gutale, told the Enfield Independent in July: “He was lovely. He was nice about everyone - the kindest human that you could ever meet – he helped everyone. He was devoted to everyone.

“Everyone is just shocked – everyone is crying. There have been so many prayers for him, he was well-known.”
