A primary school caretaker charged with sexually abusing girls aged seven and nine was granted bail this morning.

John Lyon, who has been suspended from his post at Saint Andrew’s Church of England Primary School in Churchbury Lane, did not utter a word as he sat in the dock during a five-minute hearing at Wood Green Crown Court.

Dressed in jeans, a navy-blue T-shirt and a hooded jacket, the 39-year-old was told by Judge Morrison at the court in Lordship Lane that he faces a prison sentence if he breaches his bail by entering a 200-metre radius of the school in Enfield Town.

The former school worker faces three counts of sexual assault, including two against minors under the age of 13, and one common assault charge.

The alleged abuse on July 30 last year does not relate to any pupils from St Andrew's.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on January 29, where he was given the same bail conditions.

He is due to reappear at Wood Green Crown Court on March 20.
