Marching for independent traders with Enfield's Love Your Doorstep campaign

Independent traders have been put under the spotlight in a new campaign.

Forty people spent five hours stopping in Enfield's individual shops on Saturday to help traders in tough times and encourage people to back their high street.

The group, who are supporting Enfield’s Love Your DoorStep project, marched from Southgate Tube Station in High Street to The Queens Head pub in Station Road, Winchmore Hill.

The Local Business Saturday march raised awareness of the project, which aims to help people learn about the shops on their doorstep.

Founder and director Emma Rigby said: “It was fantastic, we got a lot of recognition from doing what we did.

“Our aim was raising awareness about where the shops are, who owns them, and what they offer.”

Mrs Rigby, who lives in Parsonage Lane in Chase Side, started the campaign when two friends set up independent shops in the borough and she wanted to spread the word.

She hopes to hold the event, which was the first of its kind, three times a year.
