A youth suspected of raping an 11-year-old girl on her way home from school appeared at Lewes Crown Court this morning.

Opemipo Jaji, 18, of Osward Place in Edmonton, did not enter a plea at the court in East Sussex, and a provisional date for his next hearing has been set for March 15.

The teenager, who was remanded in custody, is likely to next appear at the Old Bailey or Snaresbrook Crown Court in London.

The schoolgirl, who had just got off a bus home from school, was walking in Galliard Road on November 23 at approximately 5pm when she was dragged into the pitch and putt area of Jubilee Park in Lower Edmonton and assaulted.

The 18-year-old has been remanded in custody since he was charged on November 29 with the rape and attempted rape of a girl under 13.
