The maternity team at North Middlesex Hospital are celebrating winning a national award for their high standards of care.

Staff at the hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton, were named the Bio Oil Team of the Year in recognition of their work caring for mothers during pregnancy and birth.

The gong celebrates the hospital's projects including the Mothers for Mothers scheme, which allows female volunteers to provide informal advice to new mothers, and the hospital’s internal awards marking good practice and behaviour of staff.

Head of midwifery Fiona Laird said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this national award, which is in recognition of the excellent care that our midwifery and maternity team provides to mothers and families.

"That our peers see us as the best midwifery team in the country is great news for the women of Enfield and Haringey.”

The team, who picked up their award at the Royal College of Midwives annual award ceremony earlier this month, are the only London hospital trust to win a national award.
