Mother thanks paramedic from Edmonton for saving daughter's life

An incident in which an off-duty paramedic from Edmonton saved the life of a teenager after arriving minutes after a road accident has been described as "a miracle".

London Ambulance Service paramedic Nikki Wyatt, 38, was driving to Essex to visit her sister when she came across 19-year-old Danielle Dresou, who had just been hit by a car.

Mrs Wyatt, who is based at Edmonton Ambulance Station in Windmill Road, stopped at the scene to give helped Miss Dresou and waited with her until an ambulance arrived.

Her mother Julie Dresou, 43, said: “When I heard that someone had stopped to help Danielle and saved her life, I knew I wouldn’t be able to relax until I had found her.

“I just can’t thank Nikki enough for what she did – the fact that she happened to be passing by at that exact time – it’s just a miracle.”

As a result of the incident, it was revealed Ms Dresou had a bleed on the brain and had to be immediately transferred to hospital where she had to be put into an induced coma for five days.

Mother and daughter were reunited with Mrs Wyatt and Mrs Dresou thanked her for saving her daughter’s life.

Mother-of-two Mrs Wyatt said: “I was really chuffed to see them both. They were so appreciative and gave me a hug and I truly believe we’ll be friends for life.

“In the all the years I’ve been in this job, I’ve never been thanked like that. It was just great to know that Danielle is OK and that I helped in some way – really humbling.”

She added: “It was instinct to stop and help. She was initially unconscious and wasn’t moving so I got her on her back and opened her airway.

“She slowly started to come round and I stayed with her until more help arrived.”

Following her experience in November last year Miss Dresou made a full recovery at the Queen’s Hospital, Romford.
