Tile Kiln Lane Open Space given cash boost
5:12pm Friday 18th January 2013 in News By Bruce Thain
Picnics, gardening and teaching and learning will go on at a green space and community area that has received a £36,000 Lottery grant.
The Tile Kiln Lane Open Space, in Tile Kiln Lane, Bowes Park will get the money for new picnic benches, a community vegetable garden and an educational area for nearby schools.
The money has come from the Big Lottery Fund's community spaces programme and is the second time money has been secured for the site since vandals destroyed the children’s play area shortly after it was installed last year.
Councillor Alan Sitkin, who applied for the money, said: “I’m absolutely delighted we were able to get this money. It’s fantastic and it’s going to be a great benefit to the area.
“When the work is done it will give families in the area the chance to enjoy a new open space which will also be a place where school children can learn about the environment."
The project also includes plans to make the space more accessible for families and to work with nearby schools to develop a vegetable garden.
The work is expected to be completed by the summer.
