Fraud-fighting team from Enfield Borough Council and Enfield Police Payback Team and wins Fighting Fraud Awards 2012

Successful fraud-fighting in Enfield has been celebrated with an award.

Enfield Borough Council and the Enfield Police Payback Team won the national Fighting Fraud Awards 2012 for their achievements in recovering cash from fraudsters.

The team has trained a counter-fraud officer to become a financial investigator as part of its work.

Councillor Andrew Stafford, Cabinet Member for Finance and Property, said: “Our fraud investigators are second to none when it comes to tracking down benefit fraudsters.

“More recently, links have been made with the Department of Work and Pensions and police colleagues to track down fraudsters who commit multiple crimes and seek them out wherever they are hiding.

“I am delighted that Enfield Council’s work with the Enfield Police Payback Team has won this coveted national award. It is well deserved.”

Chief Superintendent Jane Johnson, Borough Commander for the Metropolitan Police, said she is "delighted" the authorities have been recognised for their good work.
