Councillor Chris Bond apologises for dishing out Edmonton parking ticket to Lois Martin in Bournemouth
A senior politician has apologised to a woman who received a £110 parking fine in a number plate mix-up.
Cabinet member for the environment, Councillor Chris Bond, apologised to Lois Martin who was fined for parking in Fore Street in Edmonton when her car was actually parked more than 100 miles away in Bournemouth.
The 45-year-old received the ticket after Enfield Borough Council confused her silver Hyundai Sonata with the offending car – a silver Hyundai Coupé with a number plate one letter different to her own.
Councillor Bond said: "A ticket was issued to Mrs Martin in error because the number plate of the vehicle caught on CCTV committing a parking offences was entered incorrectly.
"We'd like to apologise sincerely to Mrs Martin for any distress this error may have caused and we will be immediately cancelling the ticket."
The saleswoman had not visited London in December, when the fine was issued and had not driven through Enfield for many years.
