A ballet student dreaming of becoming a professional dancer has finished her first term at dance school.

Laura Croom, from Oakwood, was one of just 39 pupils accepted on her three-year degree course at the Central School of Ballet in Farringdon.

The 17-year-old, who beat more than 350 people to her place, trained at The Dance Studio in Winchmore Hill before joining the ballet school.

The Professional Dance and Performance student said: “We train at least six hours a day during the week and take classes on Saturday morning too.

“You have to be dedicated to make it to the top of this profession but it's my dream to be a dancer at one of the leading ballet companies when I graduate.

“The training is very challenging, similar to the training of the best athletes, but we are all motivated by the rewards of performing."

During her final year, Laura will join the school’s touring company Ballet Central.
