Government grant brings bin changes for people living in flats and estates in Enfield

People living in flats and estates will soon notice changes to their bin collections thanks to a £2.46million Government grant.

The money, given to Enfield Borough Council, means everyone in the borough will have their organic waste - including food - collected weekly.

Communal bins will be installed outside flats and estates to encourage people to recycle.

Enfield won the money after the council submitted a bit for the Government’s weekly collection support scheme, which aims to help areas improve refuse and recycling services.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Chris Bond, said: "It’s fantastic news that we are able to expand our food waste service thanks in part to this government grant, we already provide an excellent service to residents and this scheme will enable us to increase our recycling rates still further.”

What's really crazy is that it doesn't matter if your a single person or a family household gets 3 bins that are virtually unused and there doesn't seem to be a facility to return these very expensive items an elderly lady who lives nearby said it would take her and three of her elderly neighbours a month to fill just one set of bins and often not even that. If that isn't crazy enough the Council didn't take back all of the original recycling/wheely bins so more money wasted. The communal recycing bins left outside the block where I live are regularly filled by fly tipping builders so tenants have no choice but to put it in the normal bins
