Mayor of London Boris Johnson 'delighted' to pay for two hundred trees in Enfield's streets
Two hundred more trees will grace Enfield’s roads this spring as part of an initiative by the Mayor of London.
City Hall has given Enfield Borough Council £29,375 to plant the trees in residential streets before the end of February.
Enfield is one of 19 boroughs to receive funding and is behind only Ealing, which is set to receive 210 trees of the 2,000 to be planted by spring.
The mayor aims to increase tree cover in London by five per cent by 2025 to improve air quality, reduce the risk of flooding and attract wildlife.
Mr Johnson said he was "delighted" to announce the latest crop of areas to receive money for trees.
He added: “Trees deliver a whole host of benefits for Londoners helping to improve the look and feel of neighbourhoods as well as making the capital a more attractive place to live and invest in."
