London Ambulance Service reports a 59 per cent increase in serious Christmas Eve injuries in Enfield in comparison to 2011

More than 50 people were seriously injured in Enfield on Christmas Eve as paramedics responded to emergency calls on one of the busiest nights of the year.

The London Ambulance Service reported a 59 per cent increase in call outs for serious and life-threatening injuries on December 24 - rocketing from 32 injuries in 2011 to 51 in 2012.

Less serious injuries also increased by 25 per cent – with paramedics attending 107 injuries on Christmas Eve compared to 85 on the same day in 2011.

Ambulance Operations Manager Steve Colhoun, who is responsible for the Enfield area, said: “Christmas Eve and the festive period in general was a particularly busy time for us in Enfield – and at this time of year, we do tend to see an increase in alcohol-related calls.

“With this rise in demand, I’d like to ask the people of Enfield to make sure they only call an ambulance in emergencies.”
