Ofsted's high praise for Cheviots Children’s Centre in Chase Side
12:30pm Wednesday 2nd January 2013 in News By Hermione Wright
It’s time for a children’s centre to celebrate after it was rated outstanding in its first Ofsted inspection.
Cheviots Children’s Centre in Chase Side, which cares for families with disabled children aged up to five years old, was awarded the highest rating in every category during its inspection.
Education watchdog Ofsted praised the centre for the effectiveness of its leadership and management, and noted its "exceptionally experienced staff" with "excellent levels of knowledge" in supporting the children’s multiple and complex needs.
The specialist children’s centre, which was set up in 2007, underwent a major refurbishment last year, which included new specialist changing areas and toilets, as well as larger playrooms.
Centre manager Sue Roberts said: “You can’t get better than outstanding – so all I can say is our staff, parents and children are outstanding and we appreciate all their support.”
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Time and again Cheviots achieves the highest praise. It is an extraordinary place that values each child, extending them to the limits of their ability with experiences and learning.
“We are very proud of Cheviots. It is a shining example of inclusion, patience and success for some of our most profoundly disabled children.”
