A Member of Parliament went back to one of his student jobs when he visited a Royal Mail delivery office yesterday to encourage staff before the Christmas rush.

Edmonton MP Andy Love met staff at Royal Mail’s Lower Edmonton Delivery Office in Church Street who are working to sort and deliver cards and parcels in the run-up to Christmas.

The Labour politician said: “Postal staff are absolutely run off their feet this time of year so it’s important that people realise just how much effort they put in to keeping family and friends connected at Christmas.

“Back in the days of being a student I used to work Christmases at a sorting office so I know first-hand what a relentless job it is, but it was good to get a reminder and to be able to thank the workers for the effort they’ll put in this busy Christmas time.”

Royal Mail is encouraging people to post their gifts in plenty of time to ensure people do not miss out on receiving their presents in time for Christmas day.

Olu Rabiu, delivery office manager, said: “Christmas is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail.  Our people pull out all the stops throughout the year to ensure mail is delivered quickly, but even more so over the busy festive period.”
