Edmonton MP Andy Love meeting Scouts from his constituency
A team of scouts headed to the House of Commons yesterday to learn about politics.
The 18th Edmonton Scout group and the 4th Enfield Scout group visited with 33 other UK troops to celebrate the launch of a curriculum which focuses on democracy and citizenship.
A teaching pack, called Talk This Way, will be given to all scout leaders and aims to educate young people about Parliament.
MP for Enfield North Nick de Bois and Edmonton MP Andy Love joined the young people in a politics and current affairs quiz.
MP Nick de Bois said: “This campaign is a brilliant idea. It’s an imaginative way of allowing young people to find out how Parliament works, something we need to do more of.”
“Our team did well to finish 12th out of 31 teams, although I have to admit that I was relying on the scouts for most of the answers!”
MP Andy Love said: “I’ve been involved with my local scouts in the past but this event was a great way of introducing scouts, and young people in general, to their MPs and the role and purpose of Parliament.”
Ellie Way, 12, member of the 18th Edmonton Scouts said: “I really enjoyed the quiz and I’m looking forward to using the pack back home. It’s really important to know about politics.”
