The Rainton Pageant to fill Enfield's streets on Saturday
9:15am Thursday 1st November 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
A colourful pageant to celebrate the life of the former owner of Forty Hall will fill Enfield’s streets on Saturday.
The Rainton Pageant, which sets off from Enfield Town at 5pm, is named after Sir Nicholas Rainton – who lived in Forty Hall as the former Mayor of London in the early 1600s.
The free procession will finish at Forty Hall at 6pm in time for the Enfield Town fireworks in Town Park at 7.30pm.
Cllr Bambos Charalambous, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “The Rainton Pageant is going to be one of this year’s must-see events. It has already been booked for The Lord Mayor’s Show on November 10 but Enfield gets to see it first.
“A spectacle of fire, lights, music and dance transports you back to the fascinating life and world of Sir Nicholas Rainton for one evening.
"Be entertained by performers; enjoy a hog roast lit by lanterns and marvel at the spectacle of newly refurbished Forty Hall.”
Fire eaters, music, dancing and re-enactments will run at Forty Hall until 8pm.
Children can get in the spirit of the evening by getting involved with £1 workshops including mask making and creating a Jacobean collar.
