Members of a girlband with their hearts set on the big time are one step closer to winning a national competition.

Motown band Ellamore are through to the area finals of the annual Open Mic UK competition after impressing the judges at the regional finals on Sunday, October 21.

Sophie Theodoulou, Fay Grant, and Penny Phillips formed the band a year-and-a-half ago and are desperate to prove they have what it takes to make it in the music industry.

Ms Theodoulou, who lives in Enfield Town, is currently working in hair salon Emma Claire Hair and Beauty Spa in Church Street but would like to focus on her passion for music full time.

The band members, who often rehearse in the salom, performed Ain’t No Other Man by Christina Aguilera and Rolling in the Deep by Adele during their three-and-a-half minute audition in Camden.

They sang in front of hundreds of people – including friends and family and judged by a panel of experts in the music industry.

She said: “We have done some nerve-wracking stuff before but this was very nerve-wracking.

“They called the acts that had got through back out to the stage and it was absolutely amazing to hear we’d got though, we were all very very chuffed.”

They are rehearsing for the next set of auditions, which are due to take place in Hayes on Sunday, November 18.

If they get through to the grand finals, held at The O2 arena in Greenwich, they could win £5,000 as well as secure a record deal.

Ms Theodoulou said: “We are thinking of changing it up doing something different as we have shown one side of us and we wanted to show another side."

The band is due to perform for the first time in Enfield at the Dugdale Centre in London Road, Enfield Town, on Sunday, November 11.
