North Middlesex Hospital maternity service shortlisted for national award

The North Middlesex Hospital maternity service has been shortlisted for a national award.

The service at the hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton, is one of three in the country to make the final stage of the Royal College of Midwives’ annual Team of the Year Award.

The team’s application focussed on engaging the hearts and minds of staff and patients in order to provide a better working life.

It also aimed to provide mothers with the best experience possible at every stage of pregnancy and birth.

Fiona Laird, head of midwifery, said: “We are absolutely delighted that the team has been nationally recognised by the professional body which sets out the standards of care women across the UK should expect.”

She said the North Middlesex University NHS Trust know that “engaged and happy staff” translates into a better service for women.

The trust is up against Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with the winner due to be announced in January 2013.
