School celebrates excellent inspection

A SOUTHGATE school is celebrating after receiving excellent feedback from a recent inspection.

De Bohun Primary School, in Green Road, is a good school with many outstanding features, according to schools inspection body Ofsted.

The Government body visited the Southgate school recently, and in its report praised De Bohun's overall effectiveness, saying that "It provides a good education for pupils".

Ths school was judged on a number of different things and received a majority of Grade 1 scores, indicating an outstanding' performance.

In particular inspectors noted that pupils were friendly and polite to everyone, enjoyed lessons and worked well together, and that behaviour is good and children understand how to safe and healthy.

There was also praise for De Bohun's curriculum, which Ofsted said that it offered interesting and relevant learning opportunities, as well as the various activities on offer, the breakfast club, the support that pupils receive and the management there.

In a letter to pupils, lead inspector Mike Smith said: "We really enjoyed talking to you and we were very pleased to see how well you all look after each other.

"We agree with you and your parents that your school is good and helps you to do your very best.

"We think that you make good progress in your lessons. All the staff work really well together to make sure you get any extra help you may need."

Despite the positive feedback, head teacher Terry Scott refused to rest on his laurels.

He said: "DeBohun has made great strides and we are delighted with this Ofsted report.

"All staff, governors, children and parents have made a considerable contribution to this success and we shall continue to build on it.

"I thank everyone for their enthusiasm and determination to make even more improvements."

Peter Lewis, director for education, children's services and leisure at Enfield Council added: "This is a school where children are happy and doing well and staff pull together. Congratulations to everyone on this achievement."
