AROUND 500 people attended a jobs fair at Edmonton Green Leisure Centre.
The event was organised by Enfield Council's jobs brokerage team, with around 32 employers taking part in the exhibition, more than double the usual amount.
It was the fifth fair to be organised by the local authority and the biggest to date.
Deputy leader of Enfield Council Michael Lavender was delighted with the turnout.
He said: "With the economy taking a nose dive it is massively important for unemployed residents to grab these opportunites."
The next jobs fair is scheduled for the end of September, with an exact date to be announced in the next couple of weeks.
One of the company's taking part was Aspire, Train, Succeed (ATS), a Government-backed firm that provides training for people.
And a spokesman for ATS, which is contracted by Learning Direct to run free courses for qualifications that are valued by employers, said: "It was fabulous".
The firm had over 50 people sign up for their courses which people can study at home at their own speed, or can complete one in just three months.
