    Edmonton Green Development on track

THE first phase of redevelopment work in Edmonton Green is coming to a close this summer, with the flats built in the development being handed over to housing associations.

As well as the affordable housing in Methven Court, the development of the area on The Green has so far seen the creation of a new bus station, the development of a primary care centre, the opening of new shopping outlets and the construction and imminent opening of a high-spec leisure centre.

Rupert Wood, senior development manager for St Modwens - the company carrying out the regeneration work - said: "One of my clear points, is that it's good news for Edmonton Green, this first phase. It is getting a number of new public buildings, the Evergreen Primary Care Centre, the leisure centre opening shortly.

"It is taking time to do this regeneration and it's a big project. Yes, it will happen, but it will take time. It's a big challenge for the community as well as St Modwen."

He said he appreciated the patience of the community and said the rest of the planned development was soon to get underway.

All 176 flats on the Green were designated as affordable housing at the outset of the development, with a mixture of shared-ownership homes for key-workers and rented properties for housing association tenants on the borough's housing register.

In total, three housing associations, London and Quadrant Housing, Tower Homes (owned by London and Quadrant) and the Metropolitan Housing Partnership, are managing the properties.

Andy Robertson, a neighbourhood officer for Metropolitan Housing, said: "It's a unique scheme with all the partners being together in one block. It means we work together as partners, share successes and failures, work together to deal with anything that goes wrong."

Rupert Wood, from St Modwen, said the next phase of the regeneration in the area would be the opening of an Asda supermarket.

He said: "That's what I'm calling phase two. There will be the Asda and some medium configured retail units - it's expected to be finished Summer 2008."

He said phase three would be the redevelopment of north square, near the Tesco supermarket, while the final stage would be the refurbishment of the malls.

Be aware that this article is not a portal from which you can apply for a job at ASDA.

This article is a news piece, not an advert for employment opportunities at the supermarket.
