New venue ArtHouse Crouch End has opened its doors.

It held a test screening of Dallas Buyers Club last week and has now officially launched with screenings this week of The Grand Budapest Hotel, Under the Skin, Yves Saint Laurent, Stranger by the Lake, Mr Peabody and Sherman, 12 Years a Slave and Frozen.

Venue manager Tom Barrie says: "We're delighted with the public reaction."

Only one screen is open so far but bosses say the second screen and full programme should be launched in one to two weeks.

The project is the brainchild of actor George Georgiou director Sam Neophytou and a group of fellow Crouch End residents who have invested £100,000s of their own money in the project.

Work to renovate the former Salvation Army Hall building in Tottenham Lane started in June.

Bosses had brought Curzon on board to make the venue a draw for filmlovers but announced last month there had been an 'amicable' split from the company.

A full programme for the venue is expected to feature a mix of blockbuster and arthouse films and theatre featuring collaborations with some of the many actors, directors and creatives who live locally.

It has also put a call out for talented musicians and singers in the area to get in touch for the chance to have recording of their music played within the public areas of the venue.
