SCHOOLS are invited to take part in a computer challenge designed to build students' information technology skills.

The competition organised by the Rotary Club of High Wycombe, is open to 81 schools in the High Wycombe area.

The competition is split into two age groups. Junior pupils have to come up with a computer design/drawing either as a class or individual entry. Senior pupils should submit an electronic entry of a web page or a newsletter in hard copy form.

The challenge is the first of its kind and has already attracted interest from schools.

The Rotary Club has received about 121 web page and newsletter entries and 1,232 design/picture entries, and more are still expected.

Rotary member Tony Turner said: "This is an excellent initial response and I am sure we shall have many more commitments. As far as I am aware, no other club has attempted this. We are breaking new ground here and we feel the end result will be more than worthwhile."

Prizes will be awarded to the winners with all other entrants getting a certificate.

Closing date for entries is April 9, 2001.
