A CATASTROPHIC road trip across the USA in 1993 has been transformed into California Gold by Vas Kolovos.

The Haringey resident of 40 years originally wrote the story, based on his real-life experiences, as a screenplay when he was living in LA in the early 2000s and working in the film industry.

The Spurs fans rewrote it as a book and released it as his first novel this summer.

It tells the tale of Charles and Vincent who arrive in New York, ready to fulfill a pact made at school to go to America as soon as they turn 21.

The plan is simple; start with a wild weekend in Manhattan with as much drink, drugs and girls as possible, then travel to Los Angeles to start a new life. Before they know it nearly a week has slipped by but and then a chance encounter with some Italian mobsters and a dead body gives them the incentive they need to get out of town.

They embark on two-day Greyhound journey to New Orleans, then journey to Houston where they land a job delivering a car to Las Vegas. But their tasks proves harder than it seems and stretches their friendship to breaking point.

Will they survive their adventures in America?
