Tamara Jovandic: BODY AND SOUL
Jovandic’s work is influenced by the war, which tore through her home in Sarajevo. Rich, deep colour and broad, tempestuous brush strokes sweep across the canvas. Working quickly from live models directly onto canvas, she describes the process of painting both as “a spiritual ritual” and “a physical battle”. Often autobiographical, her figurative works explore the female form, solitary eroticism, sacrifice and the isolation of a life in exile. Her abstract works are freed from narrative and represent mute poems about trees and stone.

Jovandic was born in Bosnia. In 1991 she gained a BA Hons with Distinction in Fine Art from The Academy of Art in Sarajevo. Since moving to the UK in 1992 Jovandic has taken part in over thirty group shows in the UK and abroad as well as five solo exhibitions.

The exhibition will feature “Passion” a prizewinning artwork from the London Biennale 2017.
Open Tues-Fri 1-5pm, Sat 11am-4pm, Sun 11am-5pm; closed Mon.
