AVB keen on Ade but King's future in doubt

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he is interested in re-signing last season’s loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor but also hinted that Ledley King’s future as a player at the club is in doubt.

Adebayor came to White Hart Lane on a season-long loan from Manchester City last summer but the Togolese centre-forward has since returned to his parent club.

Former Chelsea number one Villas-Boas has been left with Jermain Defoe as his only recognised forward and the Portuguese boss says he is hopeful a permanent deal can be done with City for Adebayor.

He said: “We’re on to the market to try to finish the squad. The squad at this moment has some fragilities, particularly in the striker position and we’re looking for someone else.

“We’ll be extremely willing to have Ade on board with us. It is a remote possibility at the moment, I think this football club is also famous for being very precise in the market in doing the right business and that is what we want to do.”

Injury plagued centre-back Ledley King is yet to sign a new contract with the club and Villas-Boas hinted that he may not return as a player next season.

The defender, who suffers from a chronic knee condition, has been widely tipped to take on a coaching role at the club.

Villas-Boas said: “On Ledley, I have spoken to him yesterday and there are still discussions on what is the best step for his career. It would be unfair for me to go out and say what the situation is with him.

“He has a tremendous past as a footballer and it is up to him to share with you what his decision is.”
